Cleansing accelerates the body’s natural detoxification process, the necessary elimination of waste and toxins that build up in our bodies on a regular basis. To keep healthy and alive, removing wastes and toxins is essential. With the constant exposure and ingestion of toxins these days, our systems struggle to keep up.

All cultures from time immemorial have used various kinds of cleansing and detoxification methods to augment this vital process and ensure good health and long life. Ayurveda, the ancient science of life and longevity, considers health a state where the body is clear of toxins, the mind and emotions are peaceful and joyous, body wastes are eliminated, and organs work efficiently. Ama is described as the toxic build-up that needs to be cleared for cells to function optimally. Periods of rest and deeper cleansing with rejuvenation and healing of the body and mind were always part of normal life.

Today we live in a world that is far more loaded with toxins and chemicals than ever before. Little do we realize that not cleansing leads to toxic overload and diseases, which make us sacrifice more time and expenditure in the long run. The epidemics of obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, ADHD, dementia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, to name a few, are a testament to the consequences of modern life gone awry.

Getting rid of wastes is as critical to the body as producing energy. Without it, waste products would accumulate and become so toxic that life would be terminated. Detoxification, therefore, is an ongoing activity that the body is brilliantly designed to accomplish.
