What to do about snacks

If you feel the need to have a snack, first have a large glass of water, a lemon shot, or a cup of tea; and take a moment to tune into how you are feeling.

  • Fresh, raw vegetables such as celery, cucumber, carrots, fresh lettuce leaves, fresh raw spinach leaves, raw cabbage, zucchini or broccoli. It’s best to limit your snacks to low-carb fresh raw veggies, or fermented veggies like organic raw sauerkraut.
  • Dip your raw veggies in olive oil, sesame oil or other cleanse friendly oil.
  • Fresh, raw vegetable juice: use mostly green vegetables such as cucumber, celery, zucchini, carrots, beetroot, ginger and some lemon or lime. In India, using lauki in vegetable juice is also highly recommended. Use organic or spray-free produce as much as possible.
  • Several soaked almonds, soak for 3-8 hours or overnight. Peel before eating.
  • A few raw brazil, macadamia nuts, walnuts, almonds or pecans. Cashews and pistachios are high in carbs.
  • Lemon shot: mix equal amounts (about 50-60ml/1-2oz) of fresh lemon or lime juice with water and drink like a shot. This is extremely alkalizing.
  • Fresh lemon or lime soda: take about 125ml/4oz of fresh lemon or lime juice in a large glass, and fill with soda water. Lovely to add mint leaves.
  • Stir 1 tsp – 1Tbs coconut oil into your cup of Tulsi Tea.
  • Fresh, tender or raw hard coconut pieces.
  • Fresh Bel Juice.
